President's Message

Dear Colleagues,

The DCVMA would like to express its appreciation to Dr. Valarie Tynes for taking time to update us on the Fear Free Initiative in April. I find that a focus on behavior is always interesting and useful for daily practice. We would also like to send a huge thank you to Ceva Animal Health for their sponsorship of the meeting.

This coming month we will hear about have a pair of topics: internal medicine and surgery. That means there will be helpful information for just about everyone! Dr. Ericka Pickens will be joining us from the Veterinary Medicine Specialists of Dallas/Fort Worth now part of MedVet. Her topic will be "My Approach to Anemia.” Dr. Pickens completed her veterinary training at Texas A&M University, and her residency in internal medicine at Louisiana State University. She is a diplomate of the ACVIM has been in specialty practice locally since 2004. Dr. Charisse Davidson will also be joining us to present on the subject of surgery-"IVDD: The Weiner, The Beagle and The Frenchie.” Dr. Davidson received her veterinary degree from the University of California at Davis, and completed her residency at VetSurg, Inc. She is a diplomate of the ACVS, and the owner of Lone Star Veterinary Mobile Surgical Specialists. The sponsor for the meeting is MedVet Medical and Cancer Centers for Pets. The DCVMA is truly grateful for their support of local veterinarians.

Some of you last year contributed to Dr. Jim Ahumada Scholarship at the School of Health Professions. They are looking for donations to fulfill the scholarship this year. If interested, please contact Shari Harrington, MT ASCP Cluster Coordinator at sharring@dallasisd.org or 972-925-5934.

If you or your associates have not completed your DCVMA membership application, please make it a priority. In addition, as your practice grows, consider including dues for your new associates. The DCVMA is a great way for incoming veterinarians to contribute to our professional community.

Kind regards,

Angel Thompson, DVM, DACVS
