Dr. Sandra Merchant received her degree from University of Florida in 1984, completed an internship at The Animal Medical Center in New York City before returning to the University of Florida to complete a Residency in Dermatology in 1988. She is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology and has been a member of the faculty at Louisiana State University since 1988 where she is currently dermatology service chief and a full professor. She has been awarded the Norden Distinguished Teacher of the Year, Louisiana State University Teacher of the Year, Gamma Delta Sigma Teacher Honor Roll, Speaker of the Year - Small Animal - at the North America Veterinary Conference and Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine Faculty Distinguished Service Award. She has a special interest in Veterinary Medical Education as well as ear disease and dermatologic endocrinology.
