Dr. Couto is a Professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine and the Comprehensive Cancer Center at The Ohio State University. He received his DVM from Buenos Aires University, Argentina in 1976 and was an assistant professor in there from 1976 to 1981. He then completed a Clinical Oncology Residency at UC Davis, California. In 1983 he began work as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences at The Ohio State University. Dr. Couto also currently serves as the Chief of the Oncology/ Hematology Service, the Director of the Transfusion Medicine Service and Animal Blood Bank and Director of the Greyhound Health and Wellness Program. He has received numerous teaching awards including the Norden Distinguished Teaching Award in 1986 and the OSU Clinical Teaching Award in 1987 and 1990. He received the BSAVA Bourgelat Award for Outstanding Contribution to Small Animal Practice in 2000 and the OTS Service Award in 2007. Dr. Couto has published over 300 scientific publications and book chapters in the areas of oncology, hematology, immunology and Greyhound medicine.
